担保责任（undertaking）是一种承诺，指的是您作为担保人，必须承诺在一定时间内为您所担保的人，即被担保人提供经济支持。
所谓的“担保期限（length of undertaking）”，是指您在经济上对被担保人负有责任的时间段。该期限自被担保人获得加拿大永久居民身份之日起开始计算。
担保期限的长短取决于以下因素：
- 被担保人的年龄；
- 与您的亲属关系；
- 您的居住地。对于居住在魁北克省的担保人，其担保期限可能略有不同。
